Mrs Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam, Senator for the French Abroad visited Brunei Darussalam on 11-14th September.
The Senator attended courtesy calls with Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna binti Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddin Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Attorney General, Datin Seri Paduka Hjh Hayati Binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohd Salleh and the Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Datin Dr Dayang Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti YB Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz.
During her visit and these appointments, the Senator spoke highly of Brunei Darussalam and its warm-hearted, welcoming and friendly people. She also discussed the many issues of mutual interest between France and Brunei, including education, culture, defense and women’s rights. In the field of culture, the Senator also met with Mrs Fabienne Sylla-Pousse, the Director of Alliance française in Brunei.
Mrs Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam visited Total’s Onshore Processing Plant in Lumut, with, among others, the Managing Director of Total E&P Borneo, Mr Vincent Dutel.
As Vice-President of the Delegation for Women’s Rights and Equality between Men and Women, Mrs Garraud-Maylam also had the chance to meet some of the most influential women in Brunei at the Residence of France.
During her visit, the Senator, wishing to meet the French Community in Brunei, offered a cocktail at the Residence of France, which took place on the 13th of September.
